Nitrate lists special film screenings in Los Angeles and New York — repertory and revival programming, advance screenings and premieres, Q&As, 35mm/70mm presentations, midnights, and marathons — gathered from the calendars of the theaters that host them.

Where do the showtimes come from? From the venues' own public calendars and box-office listings, refreshed throughout the day. Listings can change on the venue's side after we've fetched them — sold-out shows, cancellations, guest changes — so always confirm on the ticket page (one tap from any screening) before heading out.
A showtime is wrong or missing. Email support@getnitrate.net with the venue and film. If a whole venue's listings look stale or empty, their website layout probably changed and the fix is usually quick.
Can you add my favorite theater? Maybe! Email the venue name and city. The current roster and the wishlist both live and grow constantly.
How do reminders work? Save a screening (the heart) and Nitrate offers to remind you before showtime with a notification scheduled on your device. Reminders are local — no account, no server, and they work in airplane mode.
Do I need an account? No. There are no accounts. Favorites and your city choice sync between your devices through your own iCloud automatically.
What does the app track about me? Nothing. No analytics, no ads, no trackers. See the privacy policy — it's short and it's real.
What does Nitrate require? An iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 / iPadOS 18 or later.
About the name
Nitrate film stock made the movies of the first half-century glow — and it was so flammable that projection booths were lined with steel. The theaters in this app still run the real thing on occasion. Go see it.
